The light will turned on and flush only when car is approaching. otherwise, no light.
Can be very useful for peloton rides and for power saving.
Should be IN ADDITION to the existing light modes.
Thanks in advance.

I agree and so do others here: forums.garmin.com/.../idea-for-garmin-driveralert-mode-for-the-varia-radar-tail-light
Can anyone confirm when one of these apps is used to turn off the light whether the radar remains on (with light flashing when car approaches)?
Both those apps allow you to switch off the light and still use the radar functionality.
But neither will allow you to switch off the light and get it auto switch on again and flash when a vehicle approaches.
The first app is just an on/off switch in the data fields. It works best with a touch screen i.e. Garmin 830.
The second app does allow you to switch between light modes i.e. solid, flash, off. It's more of a "widget" app, than a data field app.
I use the Radar Light App. The light doesn’t remain, when a car approaches ( but I have a 516 German edition with only 1 light mode). And I have no experience, if/how much battery is saved, if the light is switched off, yet. Someone has experience with that?
