Varia Vision and fenix 6: no HR in Vision?

Is anyone seeing Heart Rate from a fenix 6 on their Vision? HR is not displaying for me. All other data is displayed.

The devices and their firmwares:

  • Vision V3.60
  • Garmin Forerunner 735XT 9.40 (5ce78ad)
  • Garmin fenix 6 Pro 8.10 (c55f3da)

My Vision shows heart rates when connected to the 735XT using either the wrist HRM or an external HRM. 735XT settings: Heart Rate is Auto and Broadcast during Activity is Auto.

But when connected to the fenix 6 Pro, the Heart Rate field on the Vision is always empty (six underscores). Wrist or external HRM, this does not matter.

On the fenix, I have Broadcast Heart Rate During Activity in On, and normal power mode is used without any Battery Saver features. The fenix LCD shows a valid heart rate and the 'heart' icon is steady and lit, so the HRM is functioning.

Garmin Support is looking at this, but I thought I would ask here in case I have simply missed a fenix configuration option regarding Heart Rate, broadcasting, etc.

  • The vision does not support graphical data fields if that is what you are using on the watch. You would need to be using just plan data value for it to show on the Vision.

  • Hi, as aweatherall mentioned the Vision does not support graphical data fields. Most likely your Fenix 6 pro is using the graphical HR data field by default, so try switching it to the regular HR data field and that should allow you to see HR data on your Vision.

  • That's an excellent answer, because I had not taken notice of the different Data Fields for "Heart Rate Gauge" and simply "Heart Rate". The Fenix 6 default Bike activity does have the Gauge-style field at the top of the display.

This seems to have been 80% of the problem. The final 20% was that I needed to use a Layout with fewer fields. I think the Vision does not manage screens with more than four fields, and I had added Cadence as a fifth field on the fenix. Until I reduced the fields, Heart Rate (no Gauge) still remained blank, and no Cadence box was displayed at all on the Vision.

I will create more screens on the fenix and use the Vision's scrolling to get to the details. Thank you all for the information. The Vision manual is quite brief, and I may not be reading the fenix manual closely enough :(

  • Yes the Vision is limited to 4 data fields per page.
