Will an Edge 25 link with both a dual speed/cadence sensor and the RTL510 at the same time?

Want to use Varia RTL510 simultaneously with an Edge 1000 and 25.  Both bikes have a dual sensor currently for speed and cadence.  Since the Edge 25 will only support two sensors, does the dual sensor take both on the Edge 25?  Will the Edge 25 work with both the dual sensor AND the RTL510?

  • Yes. The RTL510 broadcasts in ANT+, so it just broadcasts and any device can pick up the data.

I’ve had my 510 connected to an edge 1030 and a Wahoo head unit at the same time.

  • I understand that the 510 can be linked to multiple devices.  The question is more specific to the Edge 25 since it can only link to two sensors.  Just trying to validate that the 510 and a dual speed/cadence sensor setup will work?

  • If the Edge 25 can pair to the 510, it will pair to it regardless if the 510 is connected to another head unit or not (ANT+ is a promiscuous protocol, it just broadcasts for everyone to pick up. BTLE will, generally, only connect to a single device and stop broadcasting it's availability).

  • i believe falling rock is off the mark, You're asking if the 2 sensor limit on the EDGE 25 can be sidestepped with the additional 1 more sensor which is the RTL510 correct?

Do you already have the RTL510? if yes, then go forth and experiment.

if you don't, then perhaps do this, when you said 2 sensors, Do you see the 2 sensors on the edge w/ different ANT+ iDs?

    eg: cadence - ID = 12345

    speed - ID = 99999

if yes, and the 2 sensor limitation is real then you have your answer.

why do you say the EDGE 25 will only support 2 sensors? I looked it up online and dcrainmakers' review did not indicate that as one of the limitations. (it does say however that the # of ANT+ profiles are limited in support - eg: does not support power meter / footpad etc)

  • Nikeow:  you are correct about my question.  I do not already have the 510, so my experimentation is limited.  You have me doubting the 2 limit and I can’t remember where I saw it...I chatted with a Garmin rep and he indicates I should not have a problem.  We’ll see

  • The OP said "Want to use Varia RTL510 simultaneously with an Edge 1000 and 25".

So long as the 25 can pair with the 510, it CAN pair with both the 1000 and the 25 at the same time.

  • Well... if there really is a 2 device limit. Then forgo the speed sensor. Just use GPS for speed. (I used to use a speed sensor but now I just ignore it and use GPS)

  • The 2 sensor limit is not correct. I'm not sure where that misinformation comes from.

There is a 20 sensor limit to the size of the sensor pool and a 7 sensor limit to the number of concurrent connections.

I have a speed sensor, HRM, Radar and cadence sensor all connected.
