Battery Capacity of RTL510

Anyone know roughly the mAh of the rechargeable battery inside the RTL510?

I'm planning a bikepacking trip and plan to charge it up in the evenings using a powerbank. Just trying to figure out how big it needs to be to keep it charged for roughly a week. I tried contacting Garmin customer service, but the person I spoke to said he didn't know and neither did his coworkers.

Thanks in advance!
  • I done an experiment last week with my RTL510 and a battery pack, as I have a long distance ride planned. With my 510 & 10000mah battery pack both fully charged, and connected, I turned on the 510 to see how long it would run for. It lasted for just over 4 full days. Using that you may be able to work out the actual battery capacity on the 510.
  • Thanks for your response, bmcg80! Just curious, what setting was the RTL510 light set to: solid, night flash, or day flash?

I bough the RTL510 recently. I love the radar functionality, especially when depending fast. You know if there is something behind and can use all the road without having to look back. That said battery life is horrid. With the light on I get 4 hours, not enough for long rides. Granted I only just found out about the flash mode (using a 1030) which looks like it will extend a lot. Is there a way to just use the radar ? Any plans for an extended battery pack like the one for the 1030. I am racing Biking Man Corsica (https://bikingman.com/en/corsica-2019-en/) in a few months and need something that will last for 12 hours a day plus.

The manual idicates the RTL510 battery life is "up to" 15 hours.

I think you can turn off the light and still use the radar by Menu> Sensors> Lights> Network Options> Light Mode> Individual and the setting Menu> Sensors> Lights> Radar> Light Mode> Off.

I always use it on day flash and have had 12 hours + of riding on a single long ride on quite a few occasions. I only connect the radar part to my edge unit, never the light, I control that manually using the button.

    My RTL510 had 1400 mAh.

I know for sure because I took the battery away and replaced it with external power. :)

Long story, not sure if one is allowed to discuss it here because playing with lipo's without some kind of experience may end real bad.
