Varia RTL510 Standby?

Hello - I'm trying to understand the purpose of the RTL510's "standby" mode? In what situation would you use that? After my rides, I would power down both the Edge unit and my radar, why would I leave it in standby? What benefits of that if any?
  • Leaving it in standby means that when you turn on your Edge it will automatically switch on the Radar.
  • Thanks - is it true that in "standby mode" the batteries will last for 30 days?

    .hi,
I heard about 2 months in standby mode, never tested... :)

one of the standby mode usefullness I see, is also when I ride with colleagues (always complain of something ..in this case my powerfull tail light)

in this case standby = radar on + light off

    - as TrippyZ said, from standby the light starts automatically when I enter in activity mode on my fenix 5X+ (in my case), usually in the last used mode
    - pushing the device key (the button) shortly (not >2sec) couple of time I disable the light putting the Varia back in standby mode
    - every short push change the light mode: ...solid - night flash - day flash - off (standby) - solid - etc
    - (in all these modes the LED flash blue, so ANT+ is active)
    - (if you push the button > 2sec, the Varia will go OFF - the LED will stop blinking)

in standby the radar remain active, so I see the cars behind me, but the light is off.

    just me,

  • something must be wrong on mine... when I switch to standby mode, on my edge 1000 there is a notification that the radar is disconnected.
  • hi Vallecino,

to me sound normal, as in standby the radar is not disconnected.
only the light will not light.

Actually the radar logo on the screen is like it is disconnected, so there is no notification from cars coming. It is like everything is off or in standby. However thanks to this forums, I noticed that I can also pair it as a network light in addition to the radar. So with that I got more options like turning off the light with the radar still working.
