Varia RTL510 vs Update 3.40

Hi all,

Received my Varia RTL510 yesterday, and tried to update to the current firmware. Seems that I am currently stuck on the firmware 3.20. When using Garmin Express it says unplug and restart your device. But it just does not update. Same game with my edge 1030.

Has anyone update to the firmware 3.40 successfully?

Any help is appreciated,

I got a RTL510 about three weeks ago and I experienced no problem with the update. No problem with updates on the 1030 either.

Did you update using Garmin Express?

I did try that and it looked as it had been successfully updated. However my Edge 1030 is still saying that the version 3.40 is available to update. If I remove the device from Garmin Express and add it again also Garmin Express says that it is still on version 3.20.

To whom it might concern: The only chance I had to update was by getting a replacement device. Just plugged the replacement in and Garmin Express identified three different updates which where successfully installed.

BTW: The s/n was older on the first than the other one.

Same problem here. i Have tried everything. Is there a known solution other then replacement? Please share!

I've had the same EXACT issues. Returned the unit and ordered a second one. It would be nice to know of a fix or for Garmin to say something about this. I honestly would have bought a Wahoo if they offered a Radar. I went with Garmin 520 Plus and Varia rtl510 combo since my friend has one that is working for him.

I would like to ask all of you for your help on this. We will need the GarminDevice.xml file from the Garmin Folder on your RTL510. If you could, please add the file to this thread or PM me the file.

To access the GarminDevice.xml file:

Connect the Garmin device to the computer
Press the Windows key + E on the keyboard to open Windows Explorer/File Explorer
Open the Garmin drive listed
Open the Garmin Folder
Right Click the GarminDevice.xml file
Select Copy
Right-click on the desktop and select paste
Add this file to the forum thread or add to a PM

Mac:

Connect the Garmin device to the computer
Open Finder
Click Go in the menu bar at the top of the screen
Click Computer
Open the Garmin drive
Open the Garmin Folder
CTRL + Click on the GarminDevice.xml file
Select Copy "GarminDevice.xml"
CTRL + click on the desktop and click Paste item
Add this file to the forum thread or add to a PM

Thanks for your reply. Find a copy of my xml file directly from the RTL510 as an attachement.
Would be glad to get a quick feed-back. Otherwise I have to send it back to the shop. (Only 2 day's old)

Thank you Garmin for responding! I am still awaiting my second unit to come in before I can try again but will upload or PM you the files when I have it. The reason I wanted to update my firmware on the 510 is during a 2 hours ride, I got the "Radar is disconnected" 5 different random times so the signal is getting dropped somehow. I am using a brand new 520 Plus that I've updated to version 3.00 per Garmin Express on a Windows PC.
