Varia Radar RTL 510 and Edge 1030 problem

Everything works as expected except one function but unfortunately the key one. There are no loud alarms when a car occurs. I see it on the screen but no sound. I had the item "tones" on in both 1030 system menu and sensor menu. I reset 510 and paired it again several times but no help. The firmware is the latest one in both devices (6.0 and 3.40). Is there anybody with the same devices with the loud alarm working ? What should I do ? The bad thing is that I bought the devices in two different shops so I can hardly ask one of them for repairing the system as a whole.
  • This is the one thing I wish was improved between my RLT 510 and Edge Explore. I can barely hear the alert tone about an approaching vehicle. I guess I'll log a ticket with Garmin just to add my voice into the mix.
  • now that we have Tone selection I can not hear the radar alert tone at all anymore,

seems the volume is now reduced to next to nothing

  • It is not - still the same (and pretty loud). You have something with your 1030 or your ears.

  • Same issue as me after 1030 software updates

  • I forgot which update did this, but I had the same issue with the RTL500.  For me this was great since my rides starts in the city I was get beeped every 10 seconds for the first 15 min.  There has been a request that the alerts be channel through your phone to headset, so it can be used in the winter when you might have layers that would muffle the beep.  I would like to get a quick Radar Tone button, so on the fly I can turn on and off the tone quickly,

  • My hearing is very poor and I can barely hear the alert tone even holding the 1030 next to my ear. I finally designed a bluetooth transmitter with a microphone that sits under the 1030 and relays the tone to a single earbud. It has worked very well but the earbud battery only lasts about 3 hours. I should not have had to go to the trouble of designing this work around.

I don't understand why Garmin can't modify the alert so it can be at least sent to a phone. Older riders like myself need the Varia and our reduced hearing should have been taken into consideration in the Varia's design.

  • Ditto ditto ditto to all the posts experiencing trouble hearing the tones.   Come on Garmin,  do something about a fix..............

  • same here. headphones are allowed here in holland and i always listen to music when mountainbiking. there should be an option to relay the sound via bluetooth to my headphones. I can hear the navigation directions this way so it should be fairly easy to mix the sound from the radar with the edge warnings and send them to the headphones.
