Everything works as expected except one function but unfortunately the key one. There are no loud alarms when a car occurs. I see it on the screen but no sound. I had the item "tones" on in both 1030 system menu and sensor menu. I reset 510 and paired it again several times but no help. The firmware is the latest one in both devices (6.0 and 3.40). Is there anybody with the same devices with the loud alarm working ? What should I do ? The bad thing is that I bought the devices in two different shops so I can hardly ask one of them for repairing the system as a whole.
The tones on my Edge Explore are barely audible to me, not sure if it's the pitch of the sound or my ageing ears. There isn't a volume setting that I can find for tones, simply on/off. I often ride with bluetooth headphones and was hoping that the warning tone would be relayed to them using the audio prompt function in the Garmin Connect iPhone app. So far I can only get it to play me heart rate and lap info and no more (not even route prompts) so that is pretty disappointing. PS The phones are bone conduction ones so safe as I can hear everything around me.
This is an ongoing issue with the radars (both of them). The tones from any Garmin device are just too quiet to be useful. I have my RTLs added to my VA3 so it vibrates when a car is coming, but I sometimes don't even feel that. Same with my Varia Vision. The vibe is so weak I can't feel it. All this technology on my bike and I still depend mostly on my mirror, eyes, and ears to detect approaching vehicles. If I think I hear a car, I'll glance at my Edge 1000 or my Varia Vision to check.
For folks having trouble hearing the Varia alerts please open a ticket with Garmin support. I was told a few months ago that I was the only one who had reported the problem. The last feedback I got from them was Engineering was checking to see if they could add a tone adjustment. I haven't gotten anything feedback since then.
I personally can hear the beep very well during biking, but it would be great to pass it trough to your iPhone as you cannot hear the beep when you wear headset with music, but this is maybe to much to ask :(
Hum, Support acts like this is a new issue affecting very few people. This appears not to be the case and has been known since Early 2016 with the release of the Varia 500
Well the latest Edge 1030 firmware had an improvement to the Varia alert tone/sound. I can now hear alerts on relatively quiet country roads but they still aren't loud enough to really standout. If there is any traffic noise then I seldom hear alerts.
I've never heard an alert on my Edge 1000, including when used with my RTL 510. My hearing is not good, but I still cannot hear alerts when there is little or no road noise. I've sent complaints to Garmin, but alas, no response. I will try again with emphasis on the RTL 510.
