Does someone know if an upside down mounted RTL 510 will work as in the normal position? Or does it require to 'see' the road on the bottom (for referencing, measuring speed or whatever...)
I did question that myself, If mounted the other way ('upside down') personally I think it looks neater on bike as it fits more closely to seat post.
The manual only shows it mounted one way and says it has to be mounted perpendicular to road, which you could interpret as either way?
I have not tried it upside down but might give it a go on next ride ... can Garmin comment on whether this is a supported mount option, or is it only designed to be mounted hanging down as in the manual pictures?
Got a new RTL510 for Father's Day yesterday. Had trouble mounting it because of my saddle bag was getting in the way. So I've tried the upside down approach. Went for a ride this morning, seems to work well. I may need to play with it a bit though as it's pointing a bit above horizontal. I think it should either be horizontal, or slightly below I would think..
Hi, any success on the upside down mounting? I am planning to purchase a unit this week. i am using a dropper post and the non - sliding part is low that if i will follow the recommended position, my rear tire will get in the way. thanks
Up until last Sunday I had an RTL500. Sunday I mounted my new RTL510 upside down as shown below (assuming this import photo thing works). Performance seems identical to the older unit at this stage. No issues observed so far after 3 x 30 minute rides. The main reason for the upgrade is battery life. Lets see how it goes...
My expectation was to get a reply from Garmin or someone with knowledge about the intern technical details and mode of operation of such a device...
In the meantime I’ve also tried both alternatives and didn’t spot any differences. But I’m still missing the certitude that there is no loss of sensitivity or some accuracy in any conditions when mounted upside down...
