Vari Radar RTL510 - Connected to Edge 520

Hi,

I've just got the RTL510 and have it paired to an Edge 520. I have a few questions:

1. The battery life of the edge 520 seems heavily impacted, I get a low battery warning after only 3 hours. easily get 6+ hours without the RTL510 paird. I have SW 12.6.
2. When the Light network is set to auto the light will assume the Day flash mode. I was under the impression it should swich based on Sunrise/Sunset between Day and Night Flash.
3. I have tried to update the unit software from 3.2 to 3.3 using Garmin express but the unit doesn't "restart and install" as per the instructions. Any thoughts.

Thanks
Steve

  • Did you change anything else on the Edge 520?

I have an Edge 1030 and the radar did not effect the battery life of it at all.
  • Each time the overlay is activated when a new vehicle is detected it will enable the back light for what every duration you have it set to on the Edge. If you have a long back light timeout period and

also a high back light brightness setting this can use a lot battery if you are riding in an area with many vehicles are detected. Check to see what your back-light timeout period is as well as the what the brightness setting is.

    Thanks for the responses.

Didn't make any other changes to the edge apart from adding the Radar and light network.

Down under in Australia so doing almost all my riding in the dark. Backlight set to 10% Stays On, but that is nothing new for winter. Could be that my 3 year old 520 is showing its age?
