RTL 500 tone alerts on Edge 1030?

I own the old radar tail light bundle RTL500 and RDU. The RDU does not have tone alerts. I'd like to get tone alerts so am considering the Edge 1030. Does anyone have first hand experience with the old RTL 500 paired to an Edge 1030, specifically will the 1030 beep when RTL 500 detects an approaching vehicle?
  • Yes, it will beep. It will not be very loud though.

If you're moving over 10 or 15 MPH, you probably won't hear the beep. Any wind noise drowns it out. At least on my Edge 1000. Edge 1030 owners have told me the volume is about the same on both units.
  • I have a 1030, and I agree the beep isn't very loud. Although you become attuned to it, and find you have to be going at least 45-50km/h before the wind noise is too much to hear it.

I think it depends a lot on the road surface and wind. On our gravely roads you can't hear a thing above 10MPH or so. I use the vibration alert option on my Vivoactive 3 watch to cue me to look at the Garmin for approaching vehicles.

How are you setting the Garmin VivoActive 3 to vibrate when a vehicle is coming?
