RTL-510 battery life up to 5 months in standby mode?

According to the manual, when the RTL-510 is in standby mode, the battery life is up to 5 months! What is standby mode? Is it when the taillight part of RTL-510 is off and the LED is doing a double-flash in blue about every 5 seconds?

Standby mode is when the device is switched off but is listening for a switch-on signal from an Edge device

My experience with the RTL500 was that, when the unit was in standby (blue light blinking but red lights off), the radar was active but the lights were turned off.

I'm seriously considering upgrading and a long standby time would be great.

I just spoke with Garmin and the tech said the 5 months is with the unit fully off, but when the blue LED flashes it will eat the battery in a much shorter time.
