My Varia will not charge the LED is a solid red

my Varia will not charge the LED is a solid red, anyone had this before? last time I used it was in November.

Is the battery to low to charge?
  • Had the same problem, the battery fails to charge. Called Garmin and they replaced it with a refurbished unit, but I was only a couple weeks past warranty.
  • thanks for the reply. I'll speak to Garmin,
  • I thought my device was toast, as I was also experiencing the solid red LED while charging. I cleaned the charging port with a Q-tip and isopropyl alcohol and it is working fine now! I'm relieved - the device is only two years old and has been working great.

  • I purchased two Garmin Vario RTL 515s from Bike tires Direct approximately 16 months ago. My spouse's unit will not take a charge after using it a maybe 10 times. I called Garmin and they refused to do anything for me because "the one year warranty has lapsed" other than to let us purchase a "reconditioned" unit for half price with the unit having a 90 day warranty. Now why would I pay ANYTHING to Garmin for a unit with a 90 day warranty, after having a virtually brand new unit go bad after 10 uses? More precisely: Why would I pay Garmin to screw me a second time?

  • I have had the same issue. However, I wasn’t using the supplied Garmin USB cable. Realising that Garmin devices can be sensitive to this, I searched for the correct cable. Immediately I connected the correct cable it started flashing green and went on to fully charge

  • I have just had the same issue, thank you to the above comment about using the correct cable and the red light disappeared straight away

  • That’s good to know. I rely on this device so much it was extremely frustrating to have the problem. It’s too easy for us to blame the manufacturer but it’s often us that create a problem in the first place. I also have a Wahoo Roam and it’s also fussy about having its own lead. I now put different coloured tape on them to easily recognise among the lead spaghetti.
