Varia Vision (updated to 3.5) not synchronising with Edge 1030

Was recently given the Vision as a birthday present. Trying to set up for the first time. First thing I notice after connecting to Edge 1030 is that the time is not matched to the Edge and the temp is in F not C - as the Edge is. Remove, reconnect - same result.

Then try to change the data fields. 1) the fields indicated on screen 1 do not match what the Vision is showing. I select a different data field, it takes me to layout choice menu, but doesn't show the data field I just selected. After much faffing I finally get the newly selected data field to display on the Vision - but not showing up on the Edge's screen showing what is displayed on the Vision.

So there seems to be some kind of synchronisation failure going on here - anybody else?
  • so update. I unpaired and repaired again, set my recording units to F then back to C and the Vision updated. However, I cannot get the Vision to shift from feet to meters in any elevation/altitude field. Wearing the Vision I changed the data field settings and the Vision updated and changed the fields I had selected, but bizarrely the Edge reflected back completely different fields. So the Vision was correct, but the Edge unit's representation of that Vision screen remained wrong.
  • Apologies for the frustration. We are aware of this issue and are working on a resolution.
  • Further update. Having got the data fields more or less correct, and apparently connected to the 1030, I went out for a ride today. Turned on the 1030, turned on the Vision. They report they are connected, but no data is actually appearing in the fields - they remain stuck at zero. There is some synchronisation taking place - if I disable the 'Virtual Partner' screen, it stops appearing on the Vision, but no data updates are actually being displayed in the data fields. When I come to a sharp bend, the alert appears, but then it won't disappear.

    I remove the sensor from the 1030, turn off the Vision, reconnect, same result. So in conclusion the Vision is just not working. Am I missing something here? Or should I just return the unit and get a refund? Is the "issue" referred to in the post above, that the Vision just does not synchronise correctly with the 1030 at all - not just the data field set up?

    I have the exact same issue!! Furthermore I know the Varia Vision unit is working perfect as it was 100% good while it was linked my old Edge 1000. This issue is related to linking and displaying correctly when the Varia Vision is paired with an Edge 1030. I used the Edge 1030 during a 6 hour Sportive yesterday and the Varia Vision screen syncing and measuring units were completely at odds with the what the Edge 1030 should have been sending it. Numerous attempts to correct the screens and the measuring units had very random results, but basically my Edge would say for example Varia Screen 3 should display speed & distance, but I would get something else displayed in the Varia Vision e.g. Power & cadence. Also, the Varia Vison seemed locked on US Imperial units e.g. Miles, Feet, Fahrenheit whilst the Edge 1030 was displaying Kilometres, Metres, and degrees Celsius. I also suffered an Edge 1030 unexpected powerdown...which I am attributing to the syncing issues for now. The Edge is brand new this month so if it continues to have random power downs after Garmin sort the Varia Vision sync issue it will be going back.

    I don't blame you one bit, but it was not the Varia Vision that was at fault it was for sure the 1030. Just got a Varia vision, same problems as listed above. Works perfectly on my Fenix 5x, barley works at all on the 1030, some fields do (very few) but important fields like Speed and others are not showing any data. Lables on the 1030 would say one thing on the Varia something totally different.
