Can't get TL300 Tail Lamp to automatically go into flash mode

I have a full Garmin light setup (HL 500 Headlamp, TL 300 Tail Lamp and Radar) linked to my EDGE 820. I am using the "Auto" light mode. In this mode the HL 500 Headlamp correctly changes from flashing in daylight to solid (beam adjusting) when dark. The TL 300 Tail Lamp however stays in solid mode the whole time (unless I manually force it to flash mode). The desciption for Auto light mode is given by Garmin as "Automatically adjusts the light intensity based on the ambient light or time of day". Is the Tail Light supposed to change to flash mode in daylight like the Headlamp? If so, how do I get it to do this?
  • I think you may need to select Hi-Viz mode rather than auto to get the TL to flash.

What does that do to the performance of the HL 300 Headlamp? Do it change at all?
  • It will, put the HL in to flashing mode during the day. I don't know what it will do after sunset.

Thanks aweatherall. I'll give it a try tonight and see!
  • From what I was able to read up, both lights will stay in flashing mode (hi-viz) all the time.

Yep, unfortunately that is correct - Hi-Viz mode is flashing mode all the time.

Does that mean there is no way to have HL and TL flash during the day and solid at night? Or better still HL on Auto and TL on flash all the time?

The problem is when I over ride the TL it also over rides the HL.
  • I raised this issue with Garmin. It should put the TL in flash mode during the day under auto. It does do this for the radar unit.

Thanks Alan! I agree that is what it should do. What do you think the chances are that Garmin will change it and how long does this taje if they want to? Is there anything I can do to encourage this?
