Varia Radar Auto On with Edge 820

Hi,

I have the rear Varia radar paired up with my edge 820. I have the network settings set to power up the lights with device power on. For the life of me, I cannot get the radar and light to switch on with the 820. I have to manually turn the rear light on, then it pairs up. It does power down when i switch off the edge, but even seconds later, it does not power back up without manual intervention.

Should this work, or am i missing something?

Nope you're not missing anything the radar does not power on with the 820, it will if the head unit goes into sleep mode but eventually it will require a manual power up. A version or two back it would stay in the mode where it would power on but it would also drain the battery over night.

I have the same problem, my Varia will not come on when I turn on my Edge 820. Both have the latest software updates. I write this for two reasons:

1st, hoping to save people some time thinking they are doing something wrong (Your are not, stop trying to figure it out).
2nd, Garmin you need to fix this.

Strangely enough, the 820 will power down the Varia when I turn it off.
That said, this is a great system and will control my Bongrager Transmtr lights as it should. I really like the system, and no one really comes close to the features and functions of the 820 or 1030. So this is not a real criticism, but a request to add the auto on feature to the Varia Radar Tail Light.

Same thing with 1030. Even when 1030 goes to sleep, RTL500 shuts off and has to be powered manually.

The RTL 500/501 does not support a stand by mode so cannot be switched on by the Edge once it is has been powered off.
