Garmin Varia Lights (HL500/TL300) - Smart Mode Battery Use

I have recently purchased the Varia Lights set and have them in smart mode (blue flashing LED). When I turn off my Edge, the lights turn off but the flashing blue LED continues. Is it recommended to leave the lights in this state (so that when I power up my Edge they come alive automatically) or will the battery power be used up faster by doing this i.e. should I switch them off completely? Thanks in advance.

Yes, there is a definite drain on the battery if you leave it in standby mode. Turning it off is always the best way to preserve battery power.

Theoretically, it shouldn't be a huge drain on the battery to leave it in standby mode.

That said, if it's going to be off for a while, best to shut it off completely.
