FEnix 5 + Stages Power Meter = wrong calories and cadence (firmware 3.3 & Beta 3.41)

When i connect my Stages Power meter (Dura Ace & latest firmware version) via BT (because ANT+ signal keeps getting dropped) all the readings during my ride correspond with what I see on my Edge 810 (connected via ANT+), but when I look at the calories and average and max cadence after the ride, they are completely wrong (typically almost double of what the Edge 810 displays).

Garmin Connect automatically syncs to Strava and Strava is able to calculate the correct calories from the data it receives.

Is this a known bug? Any updates in the making?

I now always need to manually update garmin connect, Training Peaks and myFitnessPal to display the right amount of calories used during the day and can never get the Fenix to display it correctly
  • Can you post the FIT files from both devices for the same ride?
  • I have the exact same problem with 2in power meter from Rotor.
Fenix 5 and Garmin 935 are recording incorrect values for the cadence during the whole ride.

See the .fit file attached of one ride with the incorrect values.
  • The balance data from your Rotor does not look correct unless you have a serious leg imbalance. Left/right 25%/75%

I'm assuming that the 2in one is a dual protocol unit (BLE/ANT). Is there a reason you selected BLE over ANT+?
  • The cadence looks like it keeps doubling?

    Hello Alan,
I just paired the unit with the Fenix 5 without (to my knowledge) choosing between BLE / ANT+. I just assumed it was connected with ANT+.

It seems it keeps doubling indeed. When I am riding, the right cadence number is displayed, 1sec later it is doubling on the screen.

Everything works perfectly fine with an Edge 1000 and the 2in rotor though.
  • I think the unit will pair to whatever protocol it finds first.

As a test go in to the list of sensors and switch the current Rotor power meter pairing off. (Under the details it should show what protocol it is using).

Once it is off and with the power meter awake do a new search. This time you should get offered the Rotor power meter in ANT mode. Add that and do a short ride. If the data looks good then we know the problem is with the BLE implementation or the handling of the data by the watch.

I suspect that the problem in on the Rotor side as the watch does not do any processing of cadence data, but rather just reports it.
