Need to be able to charge VARIA RADAR while in use

VARIA RADAR is a very useful device and makes many common situations encountered while cycling much safer. Long distance cyclists need the ability to charge this unit while in use. My Edge 1000 has this feature, and I imagine many other current cycling computers do as well.

Could this be accomplished with a firmware update?

FWIW: The Edge 1000 can also be used while being charged.

I have the Varia Radar RTL 500 .... does this radar unit work whilst it is being charged? (I'm planning some long Audax rides of longer than 8hrs and it would be brilliant if I can charge it on the go
