Varia head light low to no power time

Hi all,

Has anyone had any issues the the headlight?

I have a the std garmin tail light and headlamp paired to my edge.

Yesterday while going to work the headlamp went from low power to zero power and off within about 10 mins.

I run the headlamp in low power mode but I am sure that can't be right. What do other users get. This means that from a full charge I have 4.5hrs use when in low power mode.

When I repowered the light after charging it up it turned on in overdrive mode.

What would be useful is a configurable fields on the edge to see what mode (low, med, high, overdrive, flash) the light is in rather then having to trek through menus to find this information out and change.

It would be useful if the Light Network page on my Edge 820 actually worked consistently.

yes, autonomy of these lights is quite bad actually, even though they are massive and heavy... never got to check the autonomy but I get at best 2 to 3 40mn rides (my work commute) in auto mode with my edge 820... so in my case that's more often even less than 2Hrs...

I noticed that the light would die systematically each time I forget to switch it completely off and leave it in pairing mode for the day (blue blinking light)... so I think the pairing mode (at least in my case) is the big issue...

the worse is that it wouldn't work while connected to a power bank so I keep charging it all the time just to be sure: having no light for my commute is NOT an option.

we're really far from the long capacity, no fuss, all automatic device for twice a day 7 days a week use I had in mind when buying it :(
  • Hello,

I'm using the HL500 with my Edge 1000. The HL500 is given for 2h30 so I thought - naively ? - that it is @ full power

Last week, I did a 50 km night ride, and quite suddenly the light switch to "low power" after around 70/75 mn. Then it lasts, without issue, the 45 mn I needed to come home.
I'm quite surprised to get only half autonomy at full power despite the fact that the light was fully charged, and in auto profile. The temperature was on the cold side (4/6°C) and I know it's not a good parameter for batteries. I would have expected an alert message on the Edge about the low battery issue.

Next test tomorrow evening, with a spare Petzl light in my bag ;)

  • I’m a bit puzzled by the use of the word “autonomy” in this thread. How is it being used?
  • maybe a bad translation from French :)

    autonomie = battery life
  • Wow…

Reminds me of the amusing anecdote about an English-speaker (an American, no doubt … as am I, I should add) who was at a restaurant in France and inquired whether their food contained “preservatif.” (The French speakers are now chuckling. Or giggling.) It is a cognate of the English word “preservative.” That is, a food preservative—a chemical used to retard spoilage that some seek to avoid). The French word is something else entirely. As is what it preserves…

Anyway, in English “autonomy” is freedom, independence, self-direction, self-regulation etc.
