Varia Vision 3.10 Bug with Strava Segments

Hi,
I found an annoying bug when using the Varia Vision display and finishing strava segments.
When the strava segment ends, the varia display reboots but instead of connecting back to my Edge 1000, it connects directly to the Varia Radar which I'm also using.
My Edge unit however remains in a "Varia Vision connected" state, so I'm unable to reconnect.
I can only reset all states by switching off all units manually, thats's pretty stupid, especially at 25 mph :mad:

What software versions do you have on both devices?

Edge 1000: 9.20
Varia Vision: 3.10
Varia Radar: 3.40

What language is the 1000 set to?

Both in German.
Worked flawlessly with 9.10 and 2.70

I get the same issue

Same issue on Garmin 520 and Varia vision on ENG language - at the end of every segment the vision resets....

Hi bradtipp,

I'm assuming that you don't have the RTL (Radar) in your set-up?

I was able to reduce what I think you are seeing. The Vision power cycles (shuts down and restarts) a few seconds after displaying the "Virtual Partner finished." message. If you were able to complete a segment before the VP did then all would be OK.

I have raised a ticket with Garmin.

Indeed I rode a segment this morning and VP finished before I did which caused Varia Vision to reboot before I finished the segment.
After reboot however, it is annoying that the Edge unit doesn't reconnect to Varia Vision and filing "Connect" ain't possible which instead causes a direct Vision/RTL connection ....

I did not ride with an RTL and the Edge and Vision were able to reconnect after the restart. I will try and get hold of an RTL and see what happens, but I will add your information to the ticket I opened.

Found out sometihing worse :(

I have to report something worse in this situation.
Imagine the following:
After finishing a segment, Varia Vision shuts down and reboots.
When done, it connects to the Varia Radar RTL (501) only.
Edge 1000 remains in "connected mode" and doesnt reconnect to the Varia HUD.
I accept the situation and ride on....
BUT:
After finishing the next segment behind my the Virtual Partner, the Edge 1000 unit shuts down and switches off completely (Perhaps it wants to transmit information to the - which it thinks - connected Varia Vision, which isn't there)
That's pretty annoying because I had to switch it on manually again and it completely booted again (while keeping the ridden track though)
After that, it assumably reconnected to Varia Vision.

Could you report that to Garmin too? And any chance Garmin will somewhen test their releases thoroughly? :(
