For those who want to mount to the back of a saddle bag, I devised a really simple way to do this. I cut a thin strip of aluminum 3x3/4”. Then I removed the two screws that hold the Varia mount to…
Here's a very simple option if you want to mount your Varia RTL510 to the luggage loop on your saddlebag.
Mounting the unit to the seat post is not an option for me because my seat post is completely…
I wanted to mount my Varia RTL510 to the saddlebag. It's a standard Medium Topeak bag. I decided to laser cut two identical pieces of acrylic and use those in combnation with the Garmin twist mount from…
Works great, I have more than 250 miles of gravel riding on one bike with this mount set-up and light attached, does not move. Thankfully had not used the custom ordered one and sent it back as it too would have been less snug. Also, you will be able to note if it ever came off but those bands should not wear on a nylon loop attachment? Glad it worked for you!
I also just put an extra quarter turn mount for the handlebar secured with rubber bands through the horizontal bag loop. Seems secure, but the Varia wants to point slightly downward now. So, as a stop gap I put a small ball of duct tape between the back of the Varia and the seat bag to bolster the unit upwards a bit to horizontal. So far so good on 2 bumpy rides.
GrahamalunEvans This Shapeways Varia clip comment is from 3 years ago. How is the clip adapter holding up? I am only concerned about durability. Thanks for any updates.
I'm still using it and it's like new. No wear or tear but a little bit muddier.
Ordered. Thanks!
Former Member,
Great idea!! I used an awl to punch holes that happened to be sized perfectly to ensure a tight fit for the tiny screws. Didn't have any aluminum on hand, but the gate door on my bag seems rigid enough to keep them from ever pulling through.
Thanks for the tip!
I would put a couple of washers on those screws.
