Varia Vision 2.40 Bugs

Hi,

I found a few annoying bugs in Varia Vision Update 2.40 (Germany, Edge 1000 v8.0)

- Temperatur is only shown in Fahrenheit, whereas my Edge 1000 is set to Celsius
- Special Characters (ä,ö,ü,ß for example) are broken in navigation list
- Navigation list is displayed empty when not navigating
- Putting calories, power and heart rate together on one training page shows the same value three times
- Navigation instructions are 20 meters late compared to Edge
- Average heart rate value is wrong
- torque effectiveness is wrong (compared to edge's value)

It would be great if you could solve these issues pretty soon.
  • Could post the following file from the Edge 1000?

    Garmin\HMD\ScrnCfg.fit

Could you describe what is wrong with these values? There is approximately a 1 second time delay between what is shown on the Edge and those values showing up on the HMD so that might be the difference you are seeing.
Average heart rate value is wrong
torque effectiveness is wrong (compared to edge's value)

  • Hi there,

the torque effectiveness, which should provide values from somewhat between 70 and 98 shows something like 1-130 which to me seems to be some other cycling dynamics value(s)
average heart rate was 80 yesterday (but it should have been 144, like the edge said)

The navigation instruction values also differ from the edge's values. For example, if I'm approaching a curve, edge shows for example 62 meters and varia vision 80 meters, but their values never match (varia vision shows only increments of 10, edge's increments seem to be smaller). In certain situations this could lead to wrong navigation decisions, mainly if one doesn't want to reassure by looking down to the edge unit.

    .fit file is attached.
  • What power meter are you using?

I just tried TE/PS and the value look correct. I'm riding in flat shoes on trainer for this quick test so the TE values are lower than what you would see wearing cleats.

  • I'm using Garmin Vector 1 :D
I will take a further look if there is a change in values on my next ride.

Furthermore: My Edge switched from 24 to 12 hours mode this morning automatically. And it also switches completely off during rides from time to time (it did yesterday...) which drives me crazy.
Not to mention that I already did every kind of reset but it still did not change this situation ...
  • It does sound like there may be a corrupt setting somewhere on the device.

Could you post the following files
    Garmin\Settings\settings.fit
    Garmin\Debugging\err_log.txt

    Vision problem

    Hi,

I have the Vision associated with my Edge 1000, the time value in the first screen of the Vision (position 4) is not updated and remains empty. The value "calorie" displayed on the first screen of the Vision, returns an exaggerated value (in the case of my training, I read on the Edge 512 cal. and on the Vision display I read in 2564). Note that in the Edge settings page of Vision I have the right values but not on the vision display. The values on screens 2 3 and 4 of Vision, seem correct, but the Vision remains in English while my edge is in Italian, I have the temperature on vision display in fahrenheit! Power value and cadence is ok on first page of Vision (i use P2max)

    sorry for my English.

    Alessandro.

    files for debug

here my setting.fit (err_log.txt is empty)
  • You may need to download the language file on to your HMD. If you connect the Varia Vision to Garmin Express and look under tools for that device there should be an option to down additional language files. If you have already done that then try toggling the language setting on the Edge away from Italian and then back again to force the Edge to recognize the change.
  • If you get a chance could you zip up the Garmin folder (and all its subfolders) on the Vision and post it here.

    Thanks.
