Just for info - I've had the chance to do a couple of long rides on both 3.0 and 3.4. For me, 3.4 is better. Detection distances seem about the same, but the progression of the blobs up the side of the Edge screen is far smoother on 3.4 than 3.0.
Went on first ride today since upgrading, and can definitely tell degradation for my unit.
Previously it seldom failed to detect vehicles, today it did multiple (MANY) times, particularly at lower speeds. It also did not seem to detect vehicles until they were closer.
The link somebody posted to old firmware doesn't work for me, is it available anywhere else?
In spite of this thread, I updated from 3.0 to 3.4. I can see no difference, for better or worse. Multiple targets all tracked and accounted for - even the stupid flocks of Harleys.
Works fine for me. It seems that slow vehicle detection works better than before and multiple car detection works really well (I went on a busy three lane road and was surprised how well it picked up the flow of traffic). Not scientific, especially since it worked well before. I will keep an eye as well but definitely don't fall under "worst update ever".
Rode with the replacement unit today on 3.4 and went 38 miles..
It performed much better than the unit I returned.. Single vehicle detection was on par with 3.0 and multi vehicle detection was also on par save for a few hiccups..
1. Was passed by several groups where only 4 of the 5 were detected at distance. The 5th in the pack would be detected just not at normal distance. Other instance include 4 in a pack and only 3 detected at distance.
2. Downtown I went 2 full blocks where nothing all all was detected. I was passed by 20 some odd cars and none were registered. These cars were easily going 10 mph + faster than I was. I'll call this a blip and keep an eye on it..
Overall the replacement unit performed MUCH better on 3.4 than the one it replaced.. I would not say it's any better than 3.0 but it's about the same based on my one ride with it.
I also would not say the unit I sent back was defective. That unit functioned perfectly under 3.0 and only showed issues on 3.4.
So what's causing some to see issues ONLY on 3.4 and some not? It has to be something internal hardware wise that the 3.4 update is not meshing properly with..
I'll do the same rout tomorrow (38 miles) and report back..
