Varia radar and edge sound

Hi,

Just looking for opinions and experiences with the radar and edge 1000 with regard to the audible alerts. In the few weeks I have been using it and for my type of riding, quiet roads, sometimes at night, i'm really impressed with the unit and the visual display it gives. However the sound from the edge is so quiet I never hear it, I know it works from a static test where it beeped when a car was picked up, but the sound was so low its no wonder I can never hear it on the bike.

Its also annoying that you have to have all audible alerts turned on as the noise it makes is rubbish and sounds like something made 20 years ago.

Anyone else have an issue with the sound ?
  • The low sound problem is caused by the Garmin mount which is solid and effectively blocks the sound. I discovered this when I got a third party mount (I wanted theEdge mounted further forwards) and the sound became much more audible.

  • RWGPS will also pair with the Varia and produce various tones for warning, high speed warning, plus all clear and they are loud enough that I need to turn the phone down...but I wouldn't know if it is any better than the Varia app battey wise.  I do know that only one app at a time will pair with the Varia and provide warnings...

  • The 1030 Plus has a louder beep.  The speaker has also been moved so that it is not under the mount.  I have poor hearing, and I usually hear the beeps from my 1030 Plus (although I don't use the radar tail light).
