Varia headlight, remote and 520

Hi All,

I was getting flashed by motorists and shouted at by pedestrians when using my Varia headlight with my 520, so I bought a Varia remote to allow me to dip the beam. Since then the headlight keeps dropping out of the lighting network. I've tried the usual of deleting the sensors and re-adding them, but so far I've not got back to the stability I had without the remote (I also have the radar rear light). I'll persist, but right now it all seems a bit flakey.

So my Q is has anyone else managed to get both a remote and a 520 (or other) to control the varia headlight? The 520 knows the remote is there as it flashed up a message saying some smart functions will be disabled as the remote is being used. I just hope that doesn't include the speed related beam adjustment.

Mysetup is:
  • 520
  • Varia Headlight
  • Varia Radar
  • Varia remote
  • Heartrate
  • Cadence
  • Wheelspeed
  • iPhone 6s

PS - It would be SO nice if Garmin could confirm the order you are supposed to switch things on and off when using multiple devices... it shouldn't matter, but it seems to!

I just bought an Edge 520 after Garmin updated the 520 in December to add Varia headlight support. I used the headlight for the first time this morning - big mistake. The 520 Varia headlight support is extremely buggy. I had the same problem with the 520 dropping the light network repeatedly, reconnecting and reforming the light network and then dropping the network again a few minutes later. Must have happened a dozen times over an hour until I eventually turned the light off manually after there was enough daylight.

I used the Varia headlight with the Edge 1000 for 2 months and never had this issue. It's an Edge 520 issue.

I use just the Edge 520 and Varia headlight - no radar or remote.
