Bike Radar and Radar Unit Connection issues

Received a Varia over the xmas period.

Plugged both units into the computer to charge them. After they were charged I loaded garmin express and updated the radar unit software to 3.00.

When I turned both devices on the head unit would find the radar unit and they would stay connected for about 5 seconds before the head unit started intermittently dropping and regaining the signal to the radar unit.

Tried re-pairing the devices, turning them on/off, removing sources of interference. No joy. I suspected that the head unit was not updating the latest software and I could not find a way to prompt it.

Downgraded the radar unit firmware to 2.20. Problem has disappeared.

Can anyone explain how the upgrade to the head unit should work once Garmin Express has updated the the radar unit?

If you are using the dedicated radar head unit then that needs to be updated at the same time as the radar unit.

Make sure that both units are paired before updating the radar. The first time through the update process will update the radar and cache the head unit update the second time though it will show a purple light showing that it is looking for the radar head unit to update. Switch the head unit on until shows the purpled update light.

I think that this is covered in the owners manual.
