Recently got an RCT715 and while its OK, the application is hopeless at finding videos, and it really desperately needs a v2 with a better sensor and image stabilisation. Some feature requests/ideas:
Software
- Fix the clip length to make it easier to find videos without wading through loads of 30 second clips. 1, 2 5 or 10 minutes would be sensible options. This should be a really easy fix.
- Make the app more responsive, its incredibly slow
- Align with the Garmin dashcam tools to reduce development effort and make more features available for the RCT715 with common software
- Support connection to wifi networks without having to use a private network to transfer data
- A free cloud option (say up to 5GB storage) with auto upload via local wifi when plugged into power, and integration into Connect showing the location of clips on the activity map would be so cool.
- At least publish an API or info to extract the GPS coordinates from the video files, so someone can code a map display for the video files. Maybe republish the dashcam windows software with this feature, and add RCT715 support, or integrate into Base Camp. Alternatively, write the metatdata into a separate file, or into the fit file on the head unit and show it in Garmin Connect so files can be found that way (show detection details like vehicle speed, and the video filename on the map).
Hardware
- Image stabilisation and higher resolution are basic requirements for a camera of this kind.
- Make it smaller, lighter, with better battery life, standard Garmin mount (realise this may not be possible given the hardware requirements).
