I installed a pair of XC100 on my spin bike and noticed immediately that there's a clicking sound from both pedals if I put pressure on my upstroke. There is a small play between the cleat and the pedal in the back/forward direction (so not left/right/up/down). Probably less than 1 mm and barely visible but enough for it to make a sound when the upstroke hits the cleat against the pedal.
I'm using SM-SH51 cleats on my shoes and they're used but far from worn to the extent that they need to be replaced. I tested my partner's shoes with almost brand new SM-SH51 cleats, they too make a sound but much more subtle or smooth compared to my shoes, but still not noiseless.
I've tried to increase the tension screw to maximum and it felt like the right cleat was more secure and snug with a little less noise. But the left cleat still had plenty of play with maximum tension, actually the increased tension didn't change anything at all. So I've adjusted the tension back to 'normal', I read that the tension screw should only affect cleat release anyway.
Have anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions how to fix this? It's driving me insane when pedaling. I'm planning on replacing the cleats with new ones, but since my partner's 'almost new' are also making some noise I don't think it will eliminate the issue.
