Huge difference in Watts between 2 sets of Rally 200 pedals

I've go a set of Rally 200 pedals (the RK version) for my road bike. The power seems fairly accurate to me and and corresponds with my Tacx Neo 2T. Comparison with friends also tells me that my FTP, avarage power,... seems fairly accurate.

Last week I bought an extra pair of Rally 200 pedals (the XC version) for my mountainbike. I went for a 50k ride and the power was way off compared to my normal (raod) values. After the ride my Edge showed me that average power was almost 100 Watts higher then what I expected and it suggested a new FTP of 60 Watts higher then last weeks FTP-test on the Tacx.

I use the same cycling computer for both bikes (Edge 1040 Solar) and I double checked that crank-lenght for both sets of pedals is correct.

Any thoughts?

  • how is your leg balance with the XC versions? if it is same as with the RK, then both XCs are faulty (probably) or the zeroing/calibrating process wasnt good. if there is huge imbalance, then one of the xc pedals is wrong "only"

But You have a 2T as a "reference", put your XC bike on it and pedal on it, do tests and do dual comparisons, or if you dont have 2 head units or cand do it, do single leg drill with ERG 60 or 80Watt on 2T, and it will show which side shows extra high power

  • I was getting high watts when i moved my rally from one indoor bike to my Kickr bike and i did not change the crank length setting. do you have the crank length correct and wheel size ?  are the pedals torqued to 25lbs with washer ?  I also found i was getting odd L-R data from the inconsistent tension on the cleats.  I made sure both pedals  on both sides had the same tension setting on cleat.

  • So I should have checked some things before coming to the forum.

I updated the pedal software, checked the tension on the pedals and when checking the cleats I noticed they were loose. Since I had to get my tools, I swapped them for the ones that came with the pedals and made sure they were at at least 7 NM, well within the range recomended by garmin.

Went for a ride, power seems normal now.
