17% Calories Difference Reported XC200 Fenix 6X vs. 1030+

Just went for my first ride with the Xc200 and had both a Fenix 6X and a 1030+ connected to the pedals via ANT+

The 1030+ (with Beta Test Firmware 4.19) recorded the following stats..

11.34 mi Distance
58:39 Time
11.6 mph Avg Speed
1,286 ft Elev Gain
167 W Avg Power
682 C Calories Burned

The Fenix 6X (with Firmware 16.60) recorded the following:

11.29 mi Distance
58:39 Time
11.5 mph Avg Speed
1,322 ft Elev Gain
166 W Avg Power
584 C Calories Burned

Also, I was getting a 48/52 Left Right Reading on Cycling Dynamics -

I checked the Sensor Information for Sensor Errors

Right Sensor was reporting 0 - 0 errors
Left Sensor was reporting 800 - 0 errors

So why are these different and which one is correct?

The 1030+ beta has a change to the calorie calculation when using a power meter. Previously it took the work in kj and used that as the calorie value.

Now in the beta a release is adds a metabolic component…

If you have both an Edge and a Fenix connected, then make sure you have all the sensor settings exactly the same on the two units. That includes settings for crank length, and auto zero. You should also set the Edge's sensor settings to include TE/PS ON, since that is what the Fenix expects it to be.

Otherwise you can run into a conflict situation where the two head units fight over what the correct settings are. This is likely the cause of your 800-0 error reported by the left sensor.

Thanks so much. I didn't have TE/PS ON. Crank Length was properly set and auto zero was set to auto on both. I will try it again tomorrow and report back.

Now in the beta a release is adds a metabolic component to the kj value to get the calorie value. So now the Calorie value is higher than rather than equal to the kj value on the 1030+.

I don't think the Fenix 6 has released that change yet.

If you want to compare the 2 units look at the kj values from both units. I think you will find they are the same or very close. The difference calorie in values is due to a metabolic component being added to the calorie value on the Edge.

You are correct on the Kj values being similar. One was 587 Kj the other was 586 Kj

EDIT: I would also add the the higher calorie count on the Edge with the beta software (metabolic component) is very close to the calorie counts I used to get on my Fenix before I had power meters, so I'm betting this is the difference.

Turning the TE/PS to ON on the edge solved the sensor error.

yeah that's what i thought. what do you mean turn them on? add them to a data screen? or make sure cycling dynamics is enabled?

There is a setting option in the Edge 1030+ that turns on and off the functionality. It is disabled by default.

ok thanks, i'll check it out. using the 830 not the 1030+, but i believe its quite similar software
