Any one else having lots of drop outs?

I have had my Garmin RS200 and my Garmin 830 for about a month now. Sending structured work outs from Training Peaks via Garmin Connect to the 830 and using it to control my 2016 WaHoo KICKR. I can also use Rouvy on my IPAD to control the trainer and then just record the Rally metrics on the 830.

The first few weeks, everything looked perfect in GC. Last week I started noticing a few power and cadence drop outs each ride and it continues to get worse every ride.

Here is today's workout

Not sure what to try. I get the drop outs if I use Rouvy or the 830 to control the work out. I recorded a short workout today on my  FR945 and it shows the same drop outs too.

It seems that may have coincided with the FR945 beta firmware I installed, but not sure, I will leave my 945 off and a long ways away for my next workout. Not sure if the 945 could cause this or not?

I will submit a ticket, but any suggestions on things to try would be appreciated.

  • is your problem solved? I have had the XC100 Rally and the same problem for 2 months. the signal goes away for 1-2 seconds every 4 minutes. Software update is up to date with 3.0.

  • Mine still continue to work OK. It's clear that there's a general problem with the Rally pedals, even though Garmin apparently refuses to admit it (probably because the same thing happened with Vector pedals). As mentioned, my guess is that most people wouldn't know if their set is defective because they don't monitor PP closely.

  • hm ok. So i think i could do nothing and except for a complaint and hope that it is gone

  • Mine are still working perfectly after 6 months. Not a single issue. I'm getting nervous with all the reports though.

  • ok, and what did you do that ich work perfectly?

  • Not sure I'm doing anything out of the ordinary. I calibrate before each ride and I connect to Zwift through my iPhone, MacBook Pro, or Apple TV. I keep all the devices or dongles as close to the bike as possible. It's been flawless for me but maybe the good times will end soon considering what's being said here.

  • Ok. I Use the Rally with my Polar M460 or Vantage M. it works good except for the dropouts.I think in the next training i will test with Samsung tab and my Tacx portal

  • Hi,

I did not see you reply, my post was flagged by someone as inappropriate or something and then immediately restored by Garmin.  I still have the power phase dropouts. It's infrequent at home but at my other training location, in a hotel, it very frequent. I need to video it and then once I do and get the data together I am going to email Garmin. So far, its just a nuisance. I do not seem to lose power or the data when I look in Garmin connect.

  • Agreed. I never would have noticed it if was not watching it. I like it on the trainer when TrainerRoad tells me to focus on pedal stroke or leg drills.

  • This is a bit late to the party but one thing that I haven't seen mentioned yet is the possible effect of having multiple head units connected, for example having both an Edge and a Forerunner connected over ANT or an Edge and your phone (a mixed ANT / Bluetooth connection).

In a situation like that it is very important that both (all) devices have the same setup with respect to the pedals, or else they will fight over which is the right setting, and this can result in power dropouts or other inconsistent behaviour.

The parameters that matter most are:

    - Crank length - should be the same. The default is 172.5 mm.

    - Cycling dynamics - should be set to 'on' or 'off' on all devices. The default is ON

    - TE/PS: This should be set to ON (on the Edge) if you also have a Forerunner or Fenix connected over ANT. The reason is that the Forerunner expects this to be ON and can conflict with your Edge, if they are both connected. This is a common issue since the default on the Edge is OFF. The Forerunners and Fenix watches do not have a UI control for the TE/PS setting.
