Restarting during ride

My daily problem is that when recording activity, the device constantly restarts, navigation is off, I don't touch the device, it just restarts... sometimes after every 10-12km, for example on a 170km trip it restarted 13 times

VERSION 6.06, does anyone have a similar problem?

The device is new directly from Garmin, I have it only 20 days and I am struggling with this problem, ah my problems with Garmin will probably never end...

Lots of people have recommended Garmin to me saying: stable, quality and long lasting device...

I first purchased a Garmin Fenix 8, after 4 months the watch was restarting with the flashlight on, so the complaint department, it took a lot of time explaining since they just wiped and updated the device ahh

Garmin Varia out of the box couldn't even just turn on completely non-functional, again the complaint department

I don't know what to do, every Garmin device is faulty and waiting for 30 days to process a claim during the summer season is unacceptable ahhhhhhh

  • I'm having the same issue as you. 3 restarts during a 40km ride. This has been going on for a month.

  • It's actually a pretty big issue if you are recording your ride. The device has to reboot and come back on. When it does come back on, the recording is stopped and you have to manually start the recording again, that it if you've noticed it rebooted. And then, it takes time to reacquire the satellites, which can take several minutes if you are in tree cover and moving.

I just had this happen on a 40 mile 7 hour MTB ride where the device rebooted at least 20 times. Super annoying and it makes the device not very useful for navigating or recording. In total it only recorded about 3/4 of the total ride.

  • Mine just started doing this as well. Version 6.07, I've had it for about 3 weeks.

I was on a 40 mile,  6 hour long MTB ride and the device rebooted itself every 15 to 20 minutes through the entire ride.

I'm probably going to return it to the retailer. For a $400 device, it should be reliable. Several times I had to stop to wait for several minutes for the device to reacquire satellites after it restarted itself so that I could continue navigating my course.

All of the restarting also killed the battery life.

  • Yeah, if i look at the reports at least i am not the only one. Unfortunately i waited too long and now cannot return the device easily without discussions with the dealer. I really like the Hardware, its just the software that is incredible bad…

I am currently on a 10-day MTB holiday with several bike parks for which i bought the device, but guess what? I left the useless thing at home and have my Edge 1050 with me and hope i dont destroy it. At least it is reliable although it looks ugly to have this big thing on my MTB.

But i still did not give up hope it gets fixed and will become a good device. Had a similar reboot issue on the 1050 which at some point got fixed, but it shows that Garmin has some improvement on their software development/testing side to do.

Just a little annoyed i payed the early-adopter fee and when it finally is running stable i would be able to get it much cheaper…

  • Hello everyone,

I'm experiencing a rare issue with my Edge MTB running the current BETA version 28.17.

#1: Normally, the device runs continuously in "always ON" mode without interruption. However, after a pause and resuming the ride, the display shows current data and values as expected—but apparently, these data are not being written to the activity file.
At the end of the ride, I see a straight line between two points with missing data such as heart rate, power, etc.
This is frustrating and currently makes the device unusable for me.

#2: After changing data fields in Garmin Connect, I noticed the same issue at that point—missing data, just like described above.

I authorize Garmin Support to access my data and contact me directly.
    Hoping for a solution soon.

    Ciao,
    Werner

  • Please Contact me.  Having the same issues with two of the Edge MTB units.  Less than a week old and multiple pauses/restarts per ride.

  • Thank you for the continued discussion on this symptom/topic. To effectively look into these reports of Edge MTB devices crashing/rebooting, we will need users to be enrolled in the beta program with at least version 28.17 installed. This is of course optional, but we have introduced recent changes meant to address this in this beta cycle and will need to investigate further if this beta did not resolve this. Installing the beta allows for additional logging information.

We are of course concerned about users seeing this on production software, but that will not have all the necessary logging information we need to look into this further.

If you have experienced this symptom after installing at least 28.17 beta, please respond in the below format so we can look into this with you.

    • What software version do you have installed?
    • What country are you located in?
    • Do we have consent to email you?
    • Do we have consent to view your Connect account if needed?
    • Provide dates of uploaded rides that exhibited these crash/reboot symptoms
