Restarting during ride

My daily problem is that when recording activity, the device constantly restarts, navigation is off, I don't touch the device, it just restarts... sometimes after every 10-12km, for example on a 170km trip it restarted 13 times

VERSION 6.06, does anyone have a similar problem?

The device is new directly from Garmin, I have it only 20 days and I am struggling with this problem, ah my problems with Garmin will probably never end...

Lots of people have recommended Garmin to me saying: stable, quality and long lasting device...

I first purchased a Garmin Fenix 8, after 4 months the watch was restarting with the flashlight on, so the complaint department, it took a lot of time explaining since they just wiped and updated the device ahh

Garmin Varia out of the box couldn't even just turn on completely non-functional, again the complaint department

I don't know what to do, every Garmin device is faulty and waiting for 30 days to process a claim during the summer season is unacceptable ahhhhhhh

  • Did several rides with and without navigation now.

    Same area as before.

No restarts happened, lets say the last  4 or 5 times.

Differences: did an map update on garmin express and changed a setting for recording to auto pause.

No idea if the Problem is really solved by an map update, but a the moment it works without complains.

The current beta software for Edge MTB enables specific logging to track and diagnose the interruption.

  • I visited the store where I bought the device, the seller was very experienced and recommended me one thing that he learned with Garmin devices:

    1. Factory restart

    2. Connect via Garmin Express, try to find the update again...

    3. Factory restart

    4. Re-pair you device again (CCAUTION don't use your backup !!!)

He explained it to me that sometimes Garmin device gets stuck during update and the update is not uploaded successfully, even if you see the new version in the system it may not be true, if you use your old backup when pairing it may contain a corrupted update, please don't use it anymore !!!

    My version was 6.07

I did the following step, I got into the menu and immediately got a message something like "Software has been updated" but after checking the version was still 6.07 I have done over 20 rides in Gravel, Enduro, Downhill profiles with and without navigation, so far no restart !

    Solved my problem !

  • Same problem here. I have installed the Beta (28.17), but Garmin Express does not work on my Mac, so I can’t report the log files back. This week I rode 60 km and had about 6–7 restarts. I’m so glad I’m not using the Garmin for tracking my rides, but only for navigation. Tracking is done by my reliable Apple Watch. :-)

  • Last saturday, I went on a 54 km mountain bike ride. My Garmin MTB unfortunately rebooted itself four times. While I had the map feature turned off, which usually isn't a problem, I suspect the workout from the Garmin trainer caused a software error. Fortunately, I had also started the ride on my Fenix watch, so the data wasn't lost.

  • From my experience the restart is not a problem for your activity. It wil just miss a few seconds for the restart duration but the ride will continue automatically when it´s back up again.
I am recording exclusively with the edge mtb and all my rides even with the edge rebooting where saved correctly.

    nontheless it´s really annoying.

  • For me it never continues.. which is the biggest issue. It doesn't loose the data from before the restart, but it reboots into a Stopped state, then I have to click start and select climbing or descending. If I don't notice it in time, then all the recording is gone for that period.

  • That was exactly my case, Did you try what I mentioned above ?

  • That’s what it does to me. Whatever ground I’ve covered during the reboot just ends up plotted as a straight line between the last recorded data point and when/wherever I resumed. Makes the lap times spectacular though haha.

  • I just tried one single factory restart, which didn't seem to help. (Your explanation does make sense, but no one told me this earlier.) I've already returned the edge mtb, got too annoyed with it. My trusty 530 works perfectly.
