The issue:
Express software offered the option to update to TopoActive maps. After a lot of headaches, given the huge size and limited (non-SD card option) size of the device, I've managed to get the whole of Europe on it. I spend most of my time in the UK, a little in RO and occasionally cycling in the rest of the EU - so want to have the full EU mapping.
Before the update, I used the device outside of EU, by swapping EU regions with the relevant Asia area. This was available for my device via Manage Maps in Express. This option is no longer present and I feel this is totally unacceptable.
The rant:
Did anyone else have this issue recently? Is it to do with the discontinuation of Cycle Maps?
It's ridiculous to have this access removed as part of the changes, if that's the case. I bet most people will want access to the coverage that had access to seamlessly, without the need for OpenStreet mapping and third party software.
As a long term-term user, this is the most significant negative move, with direct negative impact on product satisfaction. Not the tech mapping person behind understanding the stuff going on behind the curtains and the code, but there no need to pump up the size of cycling maps with info relevant for other modes, making the space a real problem and possibly in the process restricting access.
Solutions?
Is there a way of maintaining access to ALL maps, as previously, even if just as non-update cycle maps?
Is this a problem only at my end that has a solution that I didn't consider?
Is there a plan to reinstate access to all regions, as before, as TopoActive?
I'm using Win11. Latest versions of Win, Express, maps, firmware. etc.
Cheers,
Dragoș
