Compatibility of Garmin Edge Explore 2 with Garmin Charge Power Mount

According to the product page, the Garmin Charge battery pack is compatible with the Garmin Edge Explore 2 POWER.

I have the Edge Explore 2 (so not POWER).

Can I buy the Power Mount (that is included with the Explore 2 Power) separately?

And is the Power Mount compatible with my Edge Explore 2 ?

I can’t find any information on this on the Garmin website nor other sites.

Thanks

  • AFAIK / INNIE (ignorance need not inhibit eloquence?), The Explore 2 (Power) has additional contacts (5 gold colored metal pins) built into the quarter turn mount on the back of the explore and these correspond to contacts in the "Power Mount" which in turn correspond to contacts on the Charge battery pack so that the charge from the battery pack can flow through to the Explore 2 (Power) via the Power Mount.

The standard Explore 2 does not have these contacts (or additional wiring from them to the battery etc)  in the quarter turn mount so can't accept a charge via the Power Mount BUT you could use an appropriate cable as I "think" the Battery Pack has a output port for charging other stuff and you can connect this to the Explore 2. I don't know  what connectors are necessary on the cable ends, USB A, USB Micro, USB C, ??

Although the Charge battery pack is expensive when compared to similar capacity power banks especially as you need the Power Mount too, a neater setup but expensive. You can of course use any USB Power Bank to charge the Explore and carry it in a handlebar bag or similar.

I further think DC Rainmaker discusses this in this review & video (2-3 years ago) of the Explore 2.

Hopefully my recollection is accurate from my looking at the Explore 2 also a few years ago.

    This an 840 but same
