Western Europe map gone after update

I have always used my Garmin Edge Explore 1 in Western Europe. I've updated the map using Garmin Express and now I'm stuck with a map of Eastern Europe. I don't know which map I had before (Western or whole Europe).

On Garmin Express there is no option to select another map, only to reinstall the current map (can't even delete it). There is no map manager button or anything similar visible. I tried deleted the maps using file explorer but I can still only reinstall the same Eastern Europe map afterwards.

How do I install the proper map?

  • You need to go tot the Map Manager in Garmin Express

  • There is no Map Manager button to be found if I plug in my Garmin Edge. It is there if I plug in my Fenix 7

  • Same over here. Did a reset of the device; no luck. Tried both on Mac and Windows; same result. 11+ GB available on device,

  • I managed to fix it.

First I transferred all map files (gmap* files under the Garmin directory) from another Garmin device to mine using a file manager hoping it would work. I still had no map.

Then when I plugged it in the option to select a map was there in Garmin Express and I managed to install the correct map.

So I would suggest to carefully remove some map files using a file manager (and clear the garbage bin when doing so) and then plug it back into Garmin Express.

  • Tried your suggestion but after plugging the device in the only option is to reinstall the Routable Cycle Map of Eastern Europe 2024.20. The install went successfully.

But now @GARMIN, how to get back the Western Europe map! I have an old, partial map.
