Edge explore 2 with Fenix 7

Hi.

I'm user of Fenix 7 and planning to buy bike Navi. Because I don't want to spend too much and I'm rather explorer than competitor I decided to buy edge explore 2.

I have few questions how can I get as much as possible from pair of Fenix i ee2.

1. If I go for a ride I just transmit HR from Fenix do EE2 and record my activity od EE2? Will I get number of calories?

2. In Garmin connect I have some features which works on Fenix 7 but are not available on EE2. So will activities from EE2 with HR from Fenix will count to training readiness and training status?

I also was thinking about using Fenix 7 mounted on the handlebar but I'm not sure if screen is not too small. Maybe somedoby is using Fenix 7 like this?

  • Partial answer: I'm using F6 and EE2 with heart rate transmit function. Usually, I start activity on both devices, and end with 2 GC entries. One from F6 has more data to show than EE2, so I delete the one from EE2. I'm not data driven, I use EE2 for navi most of the time...so it kinda works for me. Although, EE2 is a very dificult device to recommend to anyone as it is plaqued with bugs.

  • It doesn't make sense for me. Buying EE2 and still have to start activity on a watch. I read that with the latest firmware EE2 is quite ok. Could you tell me more about bugs which you have?

  • I had fenix6, now fr965 and ee2. Earlier I broadcasted hr from the watch to ee2 and recorded only in ee2. However ee2 doesn't have some features, so it won't count some things as if you record the same on the watch. (I was told this by Garmin support) More expensive edges do sync completely, but not the ee2.

So lately what I do is I record on the watch and start an activity on ee2, so I can see the data, navigation, but I only save it on the watch and discard on ee2. Additional bonus that on the watch you have many more bike related profiles than on ee2

  • I think the option was removed at some point after reviews as the 5krunner and DC Rainmaker have it in the reviews and DC Rainmaker said it works in that review.

Wasn't till after I bought it and I found it not to work that I read in the comments that True-up seemed to be removed. So need to still record and on my 965 and use the EE2 as monitor and discard the ride at the end. Which is a pity as I was hoping to not have to do that and would have got a cheaper Byrton if it was just going to be a display for speed and distance and for Varia traffic.

  • Yeah, I think you are right, as if I remember correctly the Garmin customer support agent also mentioned that it worked in the past.

It's also a pity that Garmin does this artificial "stupiditation" of the cheaper devices in order to make us buy the more expensive, though it's understandable WHEN they do it from the beginning, BUT not when they remove features that were already there
