Lesson learned: in case of abnormal behaviour, do a factory reset!

Hi all,

I was going to request support for a problem, when I found out how a factory reset helps restoring normal functionality.

Background: I have the Explore 2 since Spring 2023, and it went through a lot of firmware updates, without any reset. Last week-end I was trying to set up a smart indoor trainer (Wickr Core) and was scratching my head for hours why I could not reproduce the activities/courses from the Explore 2. Connection via BT and ANT+ FE-C was no problem, and manually adjusting resistance was functioning properly. However, when selecting a course or an activity, the route on the map and the elevation profiles did not display at all. Sometimes I had a "Climb!" showing ion the screen, but with no Climbpro showing. I could record a new course, but as if there was only a flat road. In addition, the indoor profile still used GPS, etc.

I finally did a factory reset from menu and paired it again with Garmin Connect. I thought it would be a lengthy process, but everything went smoothly, the device keeping the courses and activities, but also my profile. And then everything worked fine: the smart trainer was using the courses, the elevation profile was setting the trainer resistance properly etc. The indoor mode settings were also properly reset: for instance, the GPS is disconnected indoor, saving battery.

So in case of doubt: do not hesitate to "refresh" your Explore 2 by doing a factory reset, possibly after each (major) firmware update. It is very smooth, keeps your activities and profile, and may help make the device work properly.
