Road hazards notifications are unreadable

Today I used 24.20 for the 1st time. I did get some beeps with some red notifications in the bottom of the screen too small and dark to be able to read. Maybe it's just me and my eyes, but I find it more dangerous than not having the notification at all.

Context: I was riding slowly (with the kids) in places we know. It was sunny weather. My eyes are not like they were when I was younger, but still I'm pretty sure it is almost impossible to read the notification.

I wasn't able riding slowly, nit having to be too concerned (because I know the way) but had I been riding alone or with my adult friends (much faster), especially in an unknown place, I think that the fact that there was a notification would increase the chance of an incident. When I hear the beep I instinctively look at the screen. I do see some red stuff, I understand it's something important, so I try to read it. But then probably I would've fall into the reported pit or whatever the hazard was...

  • I agree. The little red messages are worse than useless because they are unreadable and distract the rider where a hazard exists which is exactly where full attention to the road is essential.

  • Heel gevaarlijk dat je wordt gestoord. Ik heb de meldingen dan ook meteen uitgeschakeld.

  • Use english, please.

  • Another funny thing is that the device beeps but does not highlight the screen. Yesterday I rode at the evening without highlighted screen. I Heard the beeps, but was not able to know why it was beeping....

  • You are right. I also noticed this while riding in sunshine. The other thing is I don't remember now if the letters in the red background are white or black... I think they are black... which is the worst combination. It's almost impossible to read black on red or the other way around.

  • Strongly agree. No one needed this: keep your eyes on the road. It is a half-baked feature that exemplifies Garmin's approach to continuously providing more features rather than getting core functions to work properly.

  • They are impossible to read on a moving bicycle.

  • I think there's a well defined set of hazard notifications, so maybe one good way to improve it would be if garmin would:
    1. beep (already does)
    2. display (already does, maybe could be improved the readability)
    3. the phone would read out the hazard (IMHO this should be possible, just like it is able to read the laps) This way we would hear the beep, then hear the read-out of the hazard.
