Record a segment during a ride on Edge Explore 2

Hi all,

Apologies if this has been addressed before, I couldn't find the answer even though it seems very simple. I always record my whole commute on my Explore 2, but there is a particularly steep section that I would like to record separately so I can see if I'm improving on that section over time. Is there a way to do this? I tried making segment for this section but couldn't figure it out. Initially I thought this is what the lap button does, but it doesn't work that way, so I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks

  • Lap button only creates a division point in an activity. You can press it the moment the segment starts and again when it ends. Then in Connect you will see this segment and its time. If you have auto lap feature enabled, you need to make the autolap distance longer than the segment you are recording, otherwise it will break it mid segment. Or disable it entirely. You can also create a segment in Connect, so you get times of every pass of it after the activity is ended and uploaded. Unfortunately EE2 does not have realtime segment detection and timing. This is non-explore feature.

  • Thank you so much for taking the time!

"Lap button only creates a division point in an activity. You can press it the moment the segment starts and again when it ends." That's what I thought but when I press it, it just stops the lap and marks the parameters up to that point. Is it because I was already recording at that point? I was hoping I could record the whole course and use the lap button to start and end a specific segment but it doesn't seem to be able to do that.

OK, the autolap function could have been turned on so I'll turn it off and try again.

I'll try create a segment in connect too, I don't really mind that the device doesn't recognise it as long as I can view the data at the end of the ride.

Thanks again for helping, I really appreciate.

  • recording an activity and laps are two separate things. Laps divide the whole thing into chunks. With autolap it's by default every 5km. Pressing a lap button stops the previous one and starts a new one. With autolap disabled, there is going to be one lap for the whole activity. I never cared about laps, and I don't check them on my EE2, but I remember using them a few times while running. There are data fields for the whole activity and for lap activity. You can have a screen with overall trip data and a second one with lap data like lap distance, lap time, lap pace. Before the segment, switch to it, start a lap and observe your parameters. If you want one specific segment to be recorded, you will end up with 3 laps in garmin connect, the one before the segment, the actual segment, and whatever comes after.
