Bicycle profiles question

Coming from Polar, I am going to buy the explore 2 and I have 4 bikes. Can I have all 4 bike profiles in this device as they have different wheel and tyre sizes?

Edit: I forgot to ask also, can this device connect to my existing bluetooth smart speed and cadence sensors? I can't afford to buy 4 new pairs at the moment.

  • Can I have all 4 bike profiles in this device as they have different wheel and tyre sizes?

The Edge Explore 2 has only 3 pre-defined profiles and this cannot be changed in any way. However, this is irrelevant in your case. Wheel size does not matter unless you have a speed sensor, and if you have one (or more), then wheel size setting is per sensor and not per profile. So you can have multiple speed sensors paired, and a separate wheel size setting for each of them.

can this device connect to my existing bluetooth smart speed and cadence sensors?

Generally, yes, as long as those sensors follow the standard BLE speed/cadence profile. Exlcuding some exotic models, most bluetooth sensor should work.

  • Thanks for clarification.

I think that is how the polar computer works. I have Bike 1, 2,3,4 and it does pick up the sensors when connect on a specific bike. That was what I meant to ask.

    Cheers

  • I think it is the other way around. If you have installed all sensors for all your bikes there is a pool of sensors on the device from which when you start cycling, for example on Bike 1, the sensor(s) for that bike are coupled automatically.
So, there are no separate bike profiles with each individual settings like map, sensor(s), system profile like Road, Off Road or Indoor, etc..

  • With polar computer it picks up or as you said couples automatically to the sensors of the bike. I assume the garmin will operate in the same manner.

  • In the Explore 2 you only have 3 activity profiles, Road, off road and indoor.

in your Garmin Connect profile you can add your bikes and select the predefined for each activity.

Don't care about the different wheel size, the explore auto adjust it with GPS signal.

The speed and cadence sensors you can use any bluetooth/ANT+ model without problems.

  • Thanks for clarifying
