Possible improvement to slow sync

Hi all, possible fix to help improve sync speed.

One of my colleagues suggested swapping to the smallest available map to free space on the device. I went from Europe to just western Europe as I'm UK based. I've synced a couple of times and it seemed much quicker. Dunno if it loads and checks the map or something for each sync?

The map is swapped by hooking it up to the pc software and ticking and unticking the map you want.

Hope it helps and I'm not mad!

Cheers Mat

  • Doesn’t make much sense.

The device isn’t using the map when it is syncing.

Why would it “check the map”? For what? It’s not syncing the map.

What do you mean by “swapping”? Enabling one map and disabling the others?

What reason did your colleague have for thinking it would have an effect?

  • To answer your questions.

    • My colleague had a 520 and noticed worsening in sync speed when he had changed to a bigger map for a trip abroad. He suggested the inverse may help.
    • I do mean disabling one map and enabling another through the pc software
    • I haven't looked at the code as to wether the map is used during a sync - your statement suggests you are certain it is not a factor thus you have no need to try my suggestion

  • So, no reason at all about why this might help.

The 520 has very, very little space for maps. Much, much smaller than the smallest map on your Explore 2.

It's only syncing a few things (mostly activities). It's not syncing maps (the Edges can only update maps when plugged in). Whatever would it be mucking with the maps for when syncing?

    The suggestion doesn't make sense.
