Follow loaded route and record ride

You can start and stop recording with the lower right button. This has nothing to do with navigation.

You can select courses whether or not you are recording.

If you want to follow a previously recorded ride, you have to convert it to a course and then select it from the courses list.

That option is under the settings for the activity.

I do not understand how to do both at the same time.  I can do them on their own but they do not seem to work together

Why are you posting the same question in two subforums? This is generally considered not a good idea because it's duplicate work for people trying to help.

You can select a course before starting recording or after.

All of the Edges work the same way.

What makes you think both aren't working at the same time?

I just do not seem to get both working together which is why I thought I was doing something g wrong.

so I can select a course then start recording and it will both guide me and record. 

I did an experiment once with just one turn on a route and before the turn it gave me notice but yesterday when I had a route loaded with various turns it did not.  

in the experiment I don’t believe I started recording but yesterday I did but no directions were given as if I am doing something wrong 

Where are you creating the course?

When you have a course loaded, you should see a dark purplish line on the map. 

If recording is active, you should see a cyan line coming from the tail of the blue arrow. 

Have a look at the VeloGPS VIDEOS, they give a great sstep by step demo for navigation & recording, view the 1040 videos as these are the same user interface / software as your Explore 2

Hi pslates! To record a ride using a route on the Edge, go to navigation > courses > select the route you would like to use > Ride. Once the course is fully loaded, press the lower right side button. The Edge will then use the route to guide you while also recording the ride. 

It's important to be clear that the order of these two steps doesn't matter.

You can load a course after starting an activity.
