Edge Explore 2 battery capacity in mAh

I'm trying to find out the battery capacity in mAh, so that I can work out how big a powerbank I'dneedon a long remote trip. Anyone know?

I believe the Edge Explore was 1100 mAh?
Thanks,

Rob

  • Maybe better to move this question to the Edge Explore 2 section?

  • Thanks - and done! Hadn't found the Explorer 2 forum.

  • If you assume the Explore 2 also has a 1100 mAh battery, what would 100 mAh (guessed) more or less matter for your choice for a suitable powerbank? To be safe I would go for 1500 mAh or even 2000 mAh though.

  • Thanks. I think the battery life is quite a bit greater than the Explore? So in the absence of any firm data, I'd go with perhaps 1500? But if more, it'd make quite a difference over several days. Very relevant as I'm just back from 3 months in northern Norway, Finland and Sweden, where we went many days without access to charging.

  • The battery life of the Explore 2 is significantly higher compared to the Explore (1), but that can also be due to (much) less hungry electronics and / or better internal power management.
But indeed, seeing your multi-day trips in the northern area I can understand you need confirmed data about the battery. Even more important because the lower mean temperatures cause less battery capacity - I think you know better than me...

  • Perhaps consider buying a USB ammeter with mAH logging so you can measure what it takes to recharge the Edge. You should be able to find one on Ebay, Amazon etc or an electronics shop.

It’s far better than trying to guess.

  • Peter, thanks. I could do, but will get a feel for it once I start to use it. But far better would be Garmin telling me what the capacity is. It seems odd that they don't know, or won't say.

  • While it's definitely true that Garmin should give this information, it's not always that simple (from your point of view):
    - it can depend on the cable
    - it can depend on the charger (USB "negotiates" charging speed based on the capabilities of the chardeg device and the charger (and maybe even a bad quality cable)
So while you might get some official answer and you can divide thhe powerbank's capacity by it it won't necessarily give you that many times of full charge.
