Why does the Explore 2 has the same exact 3 year old firmware as the explore 1?

Honestly kinda sus, they ship this new hardware with such a old firmware.

I also do not get any firmware updates in the Smartconnect app from garmin to download to the device, the latest firmware posted here does seem to be a experimental firmware not yet released to the general public.

What did i buy into? Kinda regret getting onboard with Garmin, it feels like a lazy produced product Disappointed

    It's not the same firmware. It even looks different. What makes you think it's the same firmware? The latest firmware for the Explore 2 is 6.04 and it is public.

    Are you sure you got the Explore 2 and not the old Explore 1?

    The Explore 2 is shipped in the box with a 3 year old 4.5x firmware 

    You are talking about the OS, which is different from a firmware.

    The latest firmware 6.04 is available but not pushed to the device through the garmin connect app, so most people who dont download garmin express on their pc and hook up the device wont know there is a update available.

    Because that firmware is already out there, go do a search on the forums.

    How does the firmware looks different to you? Show me that you have extracted it and have the comparable data for me.

    I did and I can't find anything that would indicate that it's 3 years old. Can you help me find it?
