So it felt like I was waiting forever for the Edge 850 to come out because the processor on my edge 830 is pretty rubbish and I wanted something better than that, but heard the 840 was the same processor. Then the 850 came out, and it sounds like the power consumption rules it out for me. To be clear, battery is a factor here, but it's the actual power consumption that is the problem. I do multi-day unsupported rides in remote regions. I can charge my 830 from a dynamo and still have time to charge everything else I need to charge in a day, but that wouldn't work with the 850 because although the battery lasts only a little less time than the 840 that is by virtue of having a bigger battery. So I simply wouldn't be able to charge it. Now I'm sure the processor accounts for some of that difference, but it sounds like most of it is the screen. Frankly, the screen on my 830 is fine. An Edge 850 with that screen, or even better with the solar screen from the 840, would be an easy decision. Failing that, a more efficient 860? So my question is, has anyone heard anything about a more efficient option on the way?
