Edge 850 - All Daily Suggested Workouts are Rest Days

I have a Venu 4 which I get DSWs on, and a little over a week ago I bought an Edge 850. My Training Status populated the first day I had it, but so far the only DSWs it's given me are Rest Days....

The documentation says "If you have not established a Training Status, complete a week's worth of activities with heart rate and power data to establish a Training Status. Once a Training Status is established you will receive Daily Suggested Workouts."

I waited over a week, just in case, but it's still giving me nothing other than rest days. As far as I can tell I have everything configured correctly, and I'm not using the Coach feature. I've found a few posts with similar issues, but not really any working solutions. Has anyone else seen this behavior/found a fix?

  • the problem is likely that unified training status is completely broken with the 850. because you have a venu, that needs to cooperate with the 850 and unfortunately my experience (with a fr965) is that this does not work.

logged here  Unified Training status not working

and garmin support have acknowleged it as a software bug but no update on actually fixing it. standard garmin software quality - claimed features that are like they've never been tested at all and bug-ridden software for months after launch.

you can use the DSW from your venu however be aware that sometimes at least the recovery need and/or training load from activities on your 850 will not be taken into account there either.

we'd be better of with an 840, *** my 530 worked better until it died of old age. garmin have taken a huge step backwards with unified training status

  • Yes, this seems to be the case. I contacted them about the issue, and they basically indicated they were aware of it and were adding me to a ticket, but I've heard nothing since (this was weeks ago).

What I've been trying to do is essentially replicate the DSW cardio workouts I get from my Venu on my 850 by just manually building them in Connect. I prefer to run the workouts from the Edge since I usually have my heart-rate strap and bike trainer connected to my Edge. I thought this was working okay until recently when I did a low-aerobic workout built manually from the Venu's DSW, and then the next day it suggested the exact same workout even though it says I'm above my optimal range for low-aerobic in my Load Focus.

I feel like I'm breaking my Training Status and DSWs by trying to use my devices this way. It really sucks that it just doesn't work, given how much money I spent on these things... I went with the 850 instead of an 840 in hopes that it would get better support, being a newer device, but I guess I wasn't considering the other side of 'new' in that it will also probably have more bugs...

  • Currently using F8 47mm Amoled and Edge 850.

Same issue. How do I create a ticket.

Since new SW30.18 was just release, I hope we don't need have to wait another quarterly update for this to get fix.

  • My Edge and Venu updated yesterday, and today I appear to be getting actual DSWs suggested on my 850. They don't match my Venu's DSWs (which from what I understand is to be expected), but they're actual workouts and not just all rest days.
