Could not start indoor courses after updating to 29.22

I have created a few courses from my previous activities. Used it for indoor training, and it worked before. However after updating to 29.22, once I hit start the ride under the courses it rebooted right away. Tried several different ones and all got rebooted.  Could anyone help?

  • ...it helps doing the start/stop from the timer button...but i also encounter the same problem, one cannot do virtual cycling with the system like that! real bad!

  • it doesn't start the course for me with the button. Smart trainer did get the course setting.

  • Have been communicating with Garmin support for a month. Still no fix for it. Frustrating

  • I have been in contact with them too. After sending them a detailed account of my observations, they answered: Hard reboot! In case that does not work, to get back in touch. Nonetheless, this week i'll give it another try before such drastic solution. The rest of the system works well in all respects. Will let you know the results soon.

  • Hello JJK and all concerned,

Did the hard reset as indicated by Garmin. Result: everything seems to work fine EXCEPT 'virtual cycling'. Did first a test outdoors of ~50 km and cannot say there was any impeding issue; outdoor profile is good. Indoors Profile is a different story. I tried lots of settings and ways to enter a training session and one thing is sure: The trainer gets ANT+ signals correctly, as it reads and delivers the Wattage of all the steps of the training programs as it is supposed to (tried 3 different ramped-programs); and the bluetooth sensors work 100% too. In general, the garmin follows the training instructions well. One can start the training session from the RIDE screen or directly from the start/stop button and the results are alike (as it is supposed).

Dissappointingly enough -as it is the main reason why I got the garmin edge 850- the virtual cycling DOES NOT work no matter how you try to enter the activity or whether the gps is on or off. The garmin seems to load the activity correctly, including the climb-pro showing the climbs to come. However, once the screen is on RIDE, if you press ride: Doom! The reboot loop 'saving diagnostics' takes over. Now, if you start the activity from the Start/Stop button, it does start but in "FREE" ride mode, virtual map is nowhere to be seen, climb-pro is there no more and no course is followed at all, and no ANT+ signals are received; while the bluetooth signals are carried well.

That it is from my side. Sorry folks no virtual training as of now! A costly brand-new instrument, hard to believe.

  • I was instructed by the Garmin support to enroll in the Beta Software Program and try the beta firmware 30.11. While it fixed the crash right when I started the indoor training course, it crashed in the middle of it. I had two crashes with it already, both happened between 10-20km into the training. Still working with support to resolve it.
