New 840-Distance, Ave Speed do not display

Just got a garmin 840 bike gps. Set up screens easily but when I rode, it only showed me my speed and cadence. Does not show average speed and distance. Also does not show anything on the di2 screen. The map screen shows the correct position so gps is working. I have ride set as a ROAD ride. Also, i get a beep every five seconds. How to correct this to get displays to work?

  • If you have the data fields for avg speed and cadence set up on a screen, they will only show data after you press the start button on the bottom right of the unit.  When you're done riding, press that button again and it will give you the option of saving or discarding the ride.  For Di2, you need to go into the sensors screen, wake up your drivetrain, and find and pair it, assuming it has the capability.  You may need to add a Shimano
Wireless Unit/D-Fly accessory to enable that.

  • read the user manual first, that helps a lot. You didnt start your ride so it didnt record anything (this is why no averages) just showed datas realtime. the timer (the recording) can be started manually or automatically above a specified speed value (and paused below a specified speed value)  probably the beep sound was the alert to start your ride manually because movement was detected

  • If your average speed and distance data fields aren't showing at all, you can make them visible by customizing the data fields for your Road Ride activity profile. Here's how you can do that: Adding Workout Data Fields

Once you've got your data fields set, you'll need to ensure that you're starting the activity timer by pressing the START button.

As for the beeping and lack of Di2 data, this may be due to a connection issue with your Di2. I recommend unpairing the two devices, then pairing them again to ensure a stable connection. It's also possible that your Di2 is low on battery, so be sure to check that.
